How often should you clean bathroom exhaust fans?
Every 6 months. On a calendar: February and August.
Why it matters
A dust-choked fan can't clear shower moisture, and chronic bathroom moisture becomes ceiling mold and peeling paint.
How to do it
Pull the grille, vacuum the dust mat off the blades and cover, and confirm the fan actually moves air — a square of toilet paper should stick to the running grille.
Signs you've waited too long
Mirrors staying fogged long after showers, or specks of mold on the ceiling.
