How often should you vacuum the refrigerator coils?
Every 6 months. On a calendar: May and November.
Why it matters
Dust-blanketed condenser coils force the compressor to run longer and hotter, which shows up in the electric bill first and the repair bill later.
How to do it
Pull the fridge out or pop off the base grille, and vacuum the coils with a brush attachment until the metal shows.
Signs you've waited too long
The fridge running constantly, warm sides, or the compressor cycling loudly.
