How often should you defrost the freezer and check seals?
Once a year. On a calendar: January.
Why it matters
Frost buildup steals capacity and makes the compressor run long; a leaking door seal causes both.
How to do it
Defrost if frost is thicker than half a centimeter. Test the gasket by closing the door on a banknote — it should hold with light resistance all the way around.
Signs you've waited too long
Frost growing back within weeks, or the freezer running constantly.
