Gable

How often should you check fire extinguishers?

Every 6 months. On a calendar: June and December.

Why it matters

An extinguisher with a dead gauge is decor. Kitchens, garages, and each floor deserve a working one within reach.

How to do it

Confirm the needle is in the green, the pin and seal are intact, and nothing blocks access. Replace units older than 10–12 years or after any use.

Signs you've waited too long

A needle out of the green zone, or an extinguisher buried behind holiday boxes.
