Seal: Home Canning Safety — Privacy Policy
Effective 2026-06-08
The short version
Seal: Home Canning Safety does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything you enter (batches, altitude, diagnostic and alteration logs, notes) stays on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not collect your name, email, location, device identifiers, or usage data.
What we store on your device
The app saves your canning history (recipe, jar size, altitude used, processing time, pressure, lot number, notes), symptom-diagnostic sessions, and Recipe-Alteration Check sessions locally on your device using iOS SwiftData. This data:
- Lives only on your device. It is not synced to iCloud unless you have enabled device-level iCloud Backup for the app, in which case it is encrypted by Apple and inaccessible to us.
- Is never transmitted to Moon Dog, Daria Kopaliani, Roman Kopaliani, or any third party.
- Is deleted when you delete the app.
Network usage
Seal makes no network requests for its core functionality. Recipe data, altitude tables, symptom-diagnostic guidance, and citations are bundled into the app at install time. The app does not phone home, check for updates outside the App Store mechanism, or fetch remote content.
Recipe and safety data sources
The bundled recipe and altitude data is sourced from the National Center for Home Food Preservation (NCHFP) canonical pages and the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning. Apple-recipe acidification follows the Ball Blue Book 38th Edition (2024 update) alongside the USDA 2015 sources. Symptom-diagnostic guidance is cited per row to NCHFP, Penn State Extension, Iowa State Extension AnswerLine, and CDC. None of these sources is contacted at runtime; their data is embedded in the app.
Children's privacy
Seal is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone of any age (because it does not collect data at all).
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the updated version will appear here with a new effective date.
