Common questions
The dose amounts don't match what's on my supplement's label
Reef uses standard reef-keeping dose tables based on each product's listed concentration. Manufacturers vary, and some change formulas between bottles — always read your label and adjust if your product reports a different active percentage than the default the app uses. You can switch your preferred Ca / Alk / Mg products in Settings.
Why does Reef ask me to dose magnesium first?
Calcium and alkalinity drift unpredictably when magnesium is low. If your Mg sits below the target range, the app recommends correcting magnesium first, then re-testing Ca and Alk before paired dosing. This is standard reef-keeping practice.
Why are my recommended doses capped?
To protect your livestock, Reef caps single-day calcium and alkalinity rises to safe limits (roughly 20 ppm Ca and 1.4 dKH per day). Larger gaps get split across multiple days. Push past these limits manually only if you know what you're doing — sudden swings can stress corals, and chemical overdoses (especially alkalinity) can crash a tank.
Should I trust this app for my exact tank chemistry?
The app provides standard reef-keeping dose calculations as a guide. It is not a substitute for your own observation of the tank or guidance from a trusted reef-keeper. Always re-test after dosing and adjust gradually.
Does the app work offline?
Yes — Reef never connects to the internet. Everything runs locally on your device.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app from your iPhone or iPad. All local data is removed along with it.
Safety reminder
Reef chemicals are concentrated. Cap calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium rises to daily limits — sudden swings (especially in alkalinity) can stress corals and crash a tank. Never add Ca and Alk supplements at the same point in the water column; space them out and let circulation distribute each one. Store supplements separately, add chemicals to water (not water to chemicals), and wear eye protection when handling concentrated solutions.
