Gable

How often should you check weatherstripping and caulk?

Every fall. On a calendar: September.

Why it matters

Gaps around windows and doors leak heated air all winter and cooled air all summer โ€” usually the cheapest energy fix in the whole house.

How to do it

Check door weatherstripping for compression and daylight, and exterior window caulk for cracks. Replace flattened weatherstrip and recaulk failed joints on a dry day.

Signs you've waited too long

Drafts you can feel with the back of a hand, whistling on windy days, or condensation between panes.

Gable keeps this list for you.

The Gable app builds your home's maintenance schedule, reminds you when tasks come due, and keeps the record of everything you've done. Coming soon to iPhone.
