Gable

How often should you wash siding and check paint?

Once a year. On a calendar: June.

Why it matters

Grime feeds mildew, and failed paint exposes bare wood — rot starts wherever water finds unprotected material.

How to do it

Rinse the siding with a garden hose and soft brush (pressure washers force water behind boards). Note peeling paint, cracked boards, and gaps at trim for repair.

Signs you've waited too long

Green film on shaded walls, curling paint, or soft spots at trim joints.
