How often should you winterize lawn equipment?

Why it matters

Fuel left in a mower over winter gums the carburetor — stale gas is the number one reason small engines refuse to start in spring.

How to do it

Run the tank dry or add fuel stabilizer and run the engine to distribute it. Clean the deck, disconnect batteries, and store them somewhere that doesn't freeze.
