How often should you lubricate and test the garage door?
Every 6 months. On a calendar: April and October.
Why it matters
The garage door is the heaviest moving object in the house. Dry rollers and springs wear fast, and a failed auto-reverse is a genuine safety hazard.
How to do it
Spray rollers, hinges, and springs with garage-door lubricant. Test auto-reverse by laying a board under the closing door — it must reverse on contact.
Signs you've waited too long
Squealing or grinding on open, jerky travel, or a door that slams the last half meter.
